J Safra Sarasin hires MD from Deutsche Bank

Mary Lee has joined Bank J Safra Sarasin's ultra-high-net-worth team as managing director for client advisory, based in Singapore.

Lee joined the bank on 10 September as managing director for client advisory, according to the bank’s statement. Her role is newly-created, according to a bank spokeswoman.

Lee has 30 years of experience in the industry. She joined J Safra Sarasin from Deutsche Bank in Singapore, where she was managing director and team leader since 2009. Prior to that, she worked for DBS Bank as a team head for the Indonesia market.

Before relocating to Singapore in 2004, she worked at Standard Chartered Bank and Citibank in Indonesia in various roles in  wealth management, corporate and institutional banking, corporate leasing and consumer banking.

In her new role, she covers the clients from Southeast Asia and report to team leader for the region.

In late 2017, the bank poached Onnah Liew from Deutsche Bank to head the UHNW Singapore team. A separate hire was Bellen Chang, former executive from UBS, who joined the bank as managing director for client advisory for the Philippines on the UHNW team.

J Safra Sarasin is a Swiss private bank with subsidiaries in 25 locations in Europe, Asia, Middle East and Latin America. It had CHF170bn ($171bn) of AUM at the end of December 2017. Its parent, the J. Safra Group had $249bn of AUM.
