J Safra Sarasin poaches from Deutsche Bank

Bank J. Safra Sarasin said it has hired Onnah Liew for its ultra high net worth team in Singapore.

Onnah Liew joined the bank on 12 December as managing director for client advisory. In the newly-created role she will head the UHNW Singapore team, while reporting to Vinay Gandhi, managing director and CEO for UNHW client segment in Asia. Gandhi joined the firm from UBS in March.

Liew has 20 years of experience in the industry. She joined J. Safra Sarasin from Deutsche Bank in Singpore, where she was a managing director for Southeast Asia and a team leader since 2007. Prior to that, she was at ABN Amro Bank, Credit Suisse, OCBC Bank and KPMG.

In November, the bank appointed Belle Chang as managing director for client advisory for the Philippines in its UHNW team, who also reports to Gandhi.

J. Safra Sarasin is a Swiss private bank with subsidiaries in 25 locations in Europe, Asia, Middle East and Latin America. It had CHF156bn ($157bn) of AUM at the end of June 2017.  Its parent, the J. Safra Group had $208bn of AUM.

J. Safra Sarasin’s Asia business, at $15.3bn of AUM in 2016, places it 18th among the top 20 private banks in the region, with around 1% market share by AUM, according to an industry survey.
