RBC Wealth Management boosts Singapore team

RBC Wealth Management has added to its Singapore-based team by hiring two senior relationship managers from UOB.

Joanna Koo and Gala Shiu have joined the firm from United Overseas Bank. Both have been appointed as directors and report to David Tan, who heads the North Asia team, the firm said.

RBC said it expects to enhance its coverage of the North Asia market from Singapore with these two hires.

“The expansion of this [North Asia] team, together with our Southeast Asia team, which focuses on Indonesia, Singapore, Malaysia and Thailand, is very much in tandem with the growth of the high net worth population and their wealth in the region,” according to Grace Barki, head of RBC Wealth Management in Southeast Asia.

Both Koo and Shiu specialise in serving North Asian clients, the firm said.

Koo has nearly 25 years of experience and was most recently a senior client advisor at UOB. She previously held relationship manager roles at Coutts and DBS Private Banking.

Shiu has worked with HSBC Private Bank (Suisse), DBS and UOB.

The strengthening of the team follows the appointment of Juan Aronna in February as the head of discretionary investment management in Asia.

RBC Wealth Management, which is a part of Royal Bank of Canada, serves affluent, high-net-worth and ultra-high net worth clients globally, providing banking, investment, trust and other wealth management services.

The firm, with C$480bn ($378bn) in assets under management, operates in Canada, the US, the British Isles and Asia.
