Between the two funds, Ng prefers the Templeton product. His decision is based on the higher four Crown Rating for the fund as well as the on-the-ground market research and performance.
FE Crown Ratings are a quantitative score that measures a fund’s performance, consistency and risk control.
The Pinebridge fund, which gets a two Crown Rating, has higher volatility and a lower three-year annualised return than the Templeton product.
However, Ng noted that it offers diversification. Because of the growth categorisation model used by the Pinebridge team, the fund does not have a bias toward any sector or country.
Based on this methodology, the fund should be resilient in different market cycles over the long-term, according to Ng.
Investors should also note that both funds charge a fee that is higher than the category average, Ng added.
