HEAD-TO-HEAD: Blackrock versus Schroders

FSA compares two UK equity products: the BlackRock GF United Kingdom Fund and the Schroder ISF UK Equity Fund.

The BlackRock fund has been managed by Nick Little since October 2013. He joined BlackRock in 2006 following the merger with Merrill Lynch Investment Managers, which he joined in 2001. He previously worked for now-defunct accountancy firm Arthur Andersen.

He is supported by the wider UK equity team who are very experienced. “He has a strong history, a clear process and good resources backing him,” said Poole.

Schroders’ fund is headed up by Bill Casey and Nick Kissack, both of whom joined from Janus Henderson in 2018. They worked together for four years before joining Schroders, although this is their first time as lead managers.

Casey spent six years at Janus Henderson and prior to that worked at Bank of America Merrill Lynch and Bradshaw Asset Management, while Kissack spent four years at Janus Henderson and previously worked at Universities Superannuation Scheme and Clareville Capital.

BlackRock has a longer track record in pure UK equities, although Schroders still boast ample resources

“Schroders’ managers are capable with a clear process and also have great resources to draw on,” said Poole.
