HEAD-TO-HEAD: JP Morgan vs Schroders

FSA compares two China mixed asset products — the JP Morgan China Income Fund and the Schroders China Asset Income Fund.

The FE rating, which measures alpha, volatility and consistency of returns over three years, is five crowns for the JP Morgan fund. The Schroders fund has not been rated yet.

Ng likes both funds. Although they are differentiated, both have performed well and in the manner they are designed to, given their strategies, he said. They are also managed by well-resourced teams.

He does not prefer one fund over the other and said the decision boils down to investor appetite.

“The JP Morgan fund is a real income strategy, which is suitable for investors looking for yield. You have a higher chance of getting income regularly from this portfolio.”

For investors who believe in China’s long-term growth driven by companies in the new economy, the Schroders fund would be the better choice. However, the Schroders fund is relatively new and it is necessary to see how the fund behaves during a significant market correction.
