Kirk Sweeney will be responsible for Pinebridge’s Apac business and will join the firm’s management committee.
He will report directly to Pinebridge’s chief executive Greg Ehret, who is based in New York. Sweeney has lived in Asia for more than three decades, holding various leadership positions across the region at several investment managers.
Sweeney replaces Anthony Fasso who left the firm in December 2021.
“Asia Pacific is a critical part of our global business, and we are committed to having strong leadership in the region to further build on our success to date,” Greg Ehret, chief executive of PineBridge, said in a statement.
Prior to joining PineBridge, Sweeney was head of Asia and chief executive for Hong Kong at ExodusPoint. Previously, he was chief executive of Asia for Millennium Partners, and head of senior relationship management, Asia at Barclays.
Earlier in his career, Sweeney set up a fixed income sales and structuring platform for Nomura for non-Japan Asia, and worked at Lehman Brothers in various roles, including as Hong Kong country head and the head of Asia fixed income sales.
Pinebridge’s Asia Pacific business includes a presence in Japan, Korea, China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Singapore and Australia, and the firm is exploring opportunities in high growth markets such as Thailand, Malaysia and Indonesia, Pinebridege said in a statement.
The firm manages $148.7bn for investors as at 31 December 2021.
