Thompson’s Asia ex-Japan role was previously held on an interim basis by Kimberley Stafford, Pimco’s head of Asia-Pacific, according to a Hong Kong-based spokeswoman of the firm, noting that Thompson and the heads of Japan and Australia all report to her.
Thompson will be responsible for leading the Asia ex-Japan client-facing teams, according to the statement. Thompson first joined Pimco’s London office in 2006, where he served as head of European third-party distribution, according to the statement. He relocated to Singapore in 2010 to assume leadership of the Asia ex-Japan wealth management business and became head of the Singapore office in 2014.
Scott Steele will succeed Thompson as head of the Singapore office. He will also assume the role of head of Hong Kong and Singapore global wealth management, reporting to Thompson, according to the statement. He will be relocating to Singapore from Hong Kong.
