Morningstar Asia hires investment director

The firm hired a hedge fund investment analyst to oversee teams in China, Hong Kong and Singapore.

Manfred Wong will be based in Hong Kong and serve as director and portfolio specialist for Morningstar Investment Management Asia.

Wong will be responsible for the investment management teams based in Hong Kong, China, and Singapore, and will develop investment solutions for clients, the firm said.

Wong was previously a research analyst at Mesirow Financial in Chicago, where he focused on sourcing and monitoring hedge fund investments for their fund-of-hedge funds business. Prior to that, he held senior roles at Mercer, AMP Capital, and Macquarie, where he gained experience in investment manager due diligence/selection and portfolio management, Morningstar said.

Nick Cheung, CEO of Morningstar Asia, noted Wong’s track record in investment management. “His considerable talents will be invaluable in helping us deliver comprehensive investment advisory solutions that help achieve better outcomes for investors.”

The Morningstar Investment Management group provides retirement, investment advisory, and portfolio management services for financial institutions.
