Lindsay Wright joined as head of Asia and global chief operating officer at Matthews Asia. Prior to the appointment, she was managing director and head of distribution and co-head of investment management for Asia-Pacific at BNY Mellon.

In her new role, Wright will oversee the firm’s Asia-based businesses, according to a press statement. She will also work with the CEO and management team and help develop the long-term business strategy and global operating plan.

In the same statement, the firm announced the opening of offices in Shanghai and Singapore.

The firm said that it is evaluating business opportunities in China after the establishment earlier this year of a wholly foreign-owned enterprise in Shanghai.

The new office in Singapore will have an initial focus on portfolio management activities, company research and client service.

The firm plans to hire more people for distribution and marketing, who will be based in Singapore and Hong Kong.

William Hackett, CEO at Matthews Asia, said in the statement that the region is central to his firm’s development and long-term focus.

In addition to two new offices, the San Francisco-headquartered firm operates also in London and Hong Kong. It manages 21 investment strategies with $33.8bn in assets under management at the end of July.

In Hong Kong, Matthews Asia distributes eight SFC-registered funds investing in China, India and Asian equities, according to FE.
