JP Morgan Asset Management has expanded its Asia beta strategies team with two appointments in Hong Kong. Albert Chuang has relocated to Hong Kong as portfolio manager for the firm’s quantitative beta strategies investment team, while Jason Leung has been named as investment specialist for Asia beta strategies. Chuang was previously in the firm’s London office, where his responsibilities included portfolio management and quantitative research. Leung, meanwhile, was a senior investment specialist at JP Morgan Private Bank….

State Street Global Advisors has appointed Marcus Miholich as managing director and head of capital markets for the firm’s SPDR business in EMEA and APAC. Based in London, he will continue to report to Tim Coyne, global head of capital markets for the global SPDR business. Miholich joined the global SPDR business in October last year as head of the Nordics. Before that, he was from Haitong Securities, where he was managing director and head of Delta One, ETF and cash equity trading…

Barings Alternative Investments, the alternatives arm of Barings that manages $52.1bn in assets, has appointed Pius Ho as managing director for real estate and private equity. Based in Hong Kong, Ho will be responsible for developing the Barings real estate, private equity and real assets strategy in Asia. Before joining the firm, he was the founder and CEO of Moonbridge Capital

E Fund Management and SSGA is co-developing a new environmental China A-share strategy. The strategy incorporates a bottom-up construction approach by combining sustainability metrics from a number of data providers with a focus on companies that are more carbon-efficient, generate higher green revenues and have better environmental policies. The firm is currently in discussions with institutional investors who are interested in the strategy, the firm told FSA

Natixis Investment Managers has expanded its private debt capabilities with the acquisition of UK-based European credit specialist MV Credit. MV Credit joins the Natixis IM as an autonomous affiliate, which means there will be no changes to MV Credit’s operations, branding, staffing or investment strategies and the existing management team will continue to lead the firm as a partnership…

Compliance consulting firm Compliance Asia has opened its Shanghai-based wholly foreign-owned entity (WFOE) amid increasing demand for compliance advice from both mainland Chinese financial institutions and asset managers, as well as foreign institutions. One of the WFOE’s focus is working with Chinese and foreign-owned financial services firms and asset managers that are registered with the Asset Management Association of China (AMAC)…

Year-to-date ending May, the global hedge fund industry saw net inflows of $12.51bn, where bulk of the inflows came from directional credit and macro strategies, according to Evestment’s monthly hedge fund industry asset flow report…

Investors in Asia continue to favour income-oriented funds this year, according to a survey conducted by Cerulli Associates. Asset managers surveyed regarding their product promotion plans, and they selected regular and steady income payments as the top product feature appealing to investors…
