HKG SFC reappoints CEO

The Hong Kong Securities and Futures Commission has re-appointed Ashley Alder as its chief executive officer for another three-year term, the regulator said.

Alder’s appointment is effective from 1 October 2014.

“Ashley has contributed significantly to the SFC in the past three years, ensuring that the commission upholds Hong Kong’s market integrity and retains its reputation as a world-class financial regulator,” said the SFC’s chairman Carlson Tong.

Alder began as CEO of the SFC on 1 October 2011. During an earlier term at the SFC from 2001 to 2004, he served as executive director, corporate finance.

During his time at the SFC, Alder worked closely with Hong Kong’s Legislative Council on the passage of the Securities and Futures Ordinance.

His policy initiative work includes regulation of sponsors and independent financial advisers, the revision of the listing rules, and the enhancement of corporate governance standards.

Between his stints as SFC executive director and CEO, Alder was head of Asia at the law firm Herbert Smith in Hong Kong, focusing on equity capital markets as well as mergers and acquisitions, private equity and venture capital. He also handled regulatory and compliance work.
