McDermott is clearly a fan of the two funds, respecting their managers’ investment approach and performance.
“I like both funds and rate the managers of each very highly so this is a tough call,” said McDermott.
However “given that stock markets have risen quite a lot already this year and there are still questions over Chinese growth and trade wars”, on balance he came down on the side of the Fidelity Asia Pacific Opportunities Fund.
“This fund’s tendency to fall less in down markets is attractive as we may well see some volatility in the coming months. Overall, the manager has also produced slightly more consistent performance,” he concluded.
