JP Morgan Asset Management gets enhanced; Thailand wants some leverage; Natxis is surveying the world; A billionaire here, another there; Business social media lunacy; Andrew Carnegie’s wisdom and more.
The Eastspring team has seen a high degree of turnover. Bonnie Chan took over as the strategy lead in November last year after the departure of Pearly Yap. Yap had only recently taken over the strategy herself.
Following the departure of Yap and another analyst, the equity income team was left with only three members and was subsequently merged with the Asia growth team. Lo is not a fan of the decision.
“I can see where they’re coming from: increase some efficiency,” he said. “But it’s just oil and water. You’re merging the income team with the growth team. They share different philosophies.”
Chan joined Eastspring in 2015 having previously worked as an equity research analyst at Jefferies. She has also worked at Macquarie Group and BlackRock.
Meanwhile, the Schroders fund is headed up by King Fuei Lee. He has 22 years of investment experience and has managed the strategy since its inception.
“He is really passionate about the strategy and investing in general; he treats this strategy like his baby,” said Lo.
Lee is supported by a team of 40 analysts, with an average tenure of seven years and 15 years industry experience, although Lo noted there had been some turnover recently.
