The lead manager of the Blackrock fund, Rick Rieder, is also the chief investment officer of fundamental fixed income. He started managing the fund in 2013. He began managing the US-domiciled variant of the strategy in 2010. He joined Blackrock in 2009.
Co-managers Bob Miller and Scott Thiel joined Rieder in 2013, while Andreas Dorrenhaus joined the team in January this year.
The four managers are supported by a large analyst team comprised of 70 people focused on corporate credit, 13 on global interest rates, 17 on securitised assets and 13 on emerging markets. They are also managed by a risk management team, which plays a major role in the fund, according to Dash.
The Jupiter fund is managed by Ariel Bezalel. He first joined the firm in 1997 and was promoted to the role of assistant fund manager in 1998. Before the launching of the fund’s UK-domiciled clone product in June 2008, he managed the fixed-income portion of the Jupiter Global Managed Fund and Jupiter High Income Fund.
He is supported by seven analysts organised by sectors. Five of them report to senior analyst and head of credit research Hilary Blandy, who joined the firm in 2012, Dash said.
Both Bezalel and Blandy have personal investments in the fund, which helps align their interests with those of investors, Dash said.
He does not have any concerns about either of the fund managers, who he believes are experienced and have adequate support and resources.
