The Aegon Industrial fund receives a five-star Morningstar rating, while the E Fund product receives four stars.
Although Morningstar just released analyst ratings for onshore funds in China to its institutional clients, the firm cannot disclose them to the public due to local regulations.
Morningstar’s star rating looks at historically-adjusted performance and the analyst rating is based on forward-looking analysis.
“We like both funds, for they have competitive investment teams and they have tried and tested investment approaches,” Liang said.
However, Liang prefers the Aegon Industrial fund over the E Fund product, given that its ability to deliver better risk-adjusted returns.
“Overall, we have a stronger conviction over Xie and his execution of a proven investment process makes the fund one of our top picks for investors seeking onshore Chinese equity exposure.”
That said, Liang noted that the E Fund makes a compelling proposition for investors who have higher risk tolerance and for those who prefer more exposure to small- and mid-cap companies.
