Morningstar’s star rating looks at historically-adjusted performance and the analyst rating is based on forward-looking analysis.
Daniels prefers the Schroders fund over the ASI product.
“In terms of the funds’ alpha potential, we would expect that the Schroders strategy will outperform the ASI product,” he said, adding that he has more conviction on the Schroders fund’s process and team.
He added that he is taking a “wait-and-see approach” toward the ASI fund given the recent changes in its investment process.
That said, he believes that investors should not immediately remove the ASI fund from their choices of products to invest in.
“I think some investors would prefer not to have a hedging overlay in their portfolios, so they may consider the ASI fund.
“The ASI fund, like the Schroders fund, can also be used as a diversifier in their portfolios, especially since both products have high active share components relative to the index,” he said.
