Gary Harvey
Harvey is expected to assume the role in March, subject to regulatory approval. He will oversee 118 advisors across Asia, who collectively manage £411.7m ($577.31m) of assets.
The new appointment is to replace Nigel Preston, who will return to St James’s Place UK. Preston has led the firm’s Singapore business as CEO since 2015.
Most recently, Harvey was chief executive officer at Nexus Financial Services in Singapore. He held this position since August 2015 when the company, headquartered in the Middle East, established the Singapore office.
Prior to that, Harvey was director of sales and distribution at the Singapore branch of the life insurer Transamerica Life (Bermuda) Ltd. A Singapore citizen, Harvey had also headed units of several multinational firms in the country. From 2005 to 2012, he was the regional CEO of IPAC Wealth Management Asia. He also served AXA Life Singapore as CEO between 2002 and 2005.
Harvey’s forthcoming appointment is expected to boost the firm’s expertise in its target markets in Asia. “[His] knowledge of the financial services sector in Asia will provide additional focus and direction, helping us further understand and serve the advisory needs of ifs local and expatriate communities,” Mike Gravestock, SJP’s international partnership director, said in a statement.
UK-based St. James’s Place Wealth Management has £85.7bn ($120bn) of client funds under management globally, according to the firm’s statement. The company provides face-to-face financial advice to clients. In Asia, the firm operates in Singapore, Hong Kong and Shanghai.
