Vietnam has emerged as a bright spot in the Asia Pacific region given its strong economic growth coming out of the pandemic.

Amid growing global political and economic uncertainties, Vietnam is becoming a beneficiary of companies looking to diversify their supply chains in the Asian region.

Against this backdrop, FSA shares five top-performing active Vietnam-focused equity funds available for distribution in Hong Kong and Singapore.

Lemanik KIM Vietnam Growth

The KIM Vietnam Growth fund is up 16.96% over the past 12 months, well ahead of the FTSE Vietnam index loss of 8.76%. It is also top performer over three years with a 65.17% return for the period.

The strategy is managed by Lemanik Asset Management, an independent investment bouqitue headquartered in Switzerland. It invests in growth stocks with a buy-and-hold approach.

IFM Independent Fund Management AG Lumen Vietnam

The Lumen Vietnam fund is up 15.11% over the past year, well ahead of the index loss and the 5.54% return from the Singapore Equity – Asia Pacific ex Japan peer group. Over three years, it is up 33.97%.

Amundi Vietnam Opportunities

The Amundi Vietnam Opportunities fund is up 13.43% over past year, well above the index and the 5.72% return of its peer group, the Hong Kong Equity – Other Asia Pacific Single Country sector. Over the past three years the strategy is up 15.91% following a difficult year in 2022.

Run by Amundi’s Thomas Yeung, the managers run a fairly concentrated strategy where its top-10 accounts for roughly two thirds of its portfolio, versus the FTSE Vietnam All-Share index top-10 weighting of 53.19%.

JP Morgan Vietnam Opportunities

The JP Morgan Vietnam Opportunities fund delivered 11.4% over the past 12 months, well ahead of its benchmark the MSCI Vietnam IMI index, which is up only 2.65% over the same period.

The $286m strategy is run by JP Morgan’s Chang Qi Ong, Chate Benchavitvilai and Desmond Loh who are overweight financials and industrials relative to its benchmark – two sectors likely to benefit from strong economic growth in the region.

Lion Global Vietnam

The LionGlobal Vietnam fund is up 5.23% over the past year, versus the 8.76% loss from the FTSE Vietnam index.

Run by Lion Global Investors, this strategy is run by Kok Fook Meng who is currently running a high cash position of 14%, according to its latest factsheet, which has likely helped cushion its performance versus the falling index.
