Capital Group adds Asia fixed income director

The US asset manager taps Schroders for Singapore hire.

Capital Group has appointed David Cheng fixed income director, effective today. Based in Singapore, Cheng’s responsibilities will include representing Capital Group’s fixed income team, deepening client engagement on bonds and growing the firm’s fixed income business across Asia.

He will focus on a range of fixed income investment strategies, including Capital Group Global High Income Opportunities (LUX) and Capital Group Global Corporate Bond Fund (LUX), according to the firm.

Cheng has two decades of industry experience, most recently as an investment director at Schroders in Singapore. Prior to that, he spent six years at UBS serving as the head of Apac ex-Japan investment specialists in Hong Kong and a portfolio manager in Chicago.

“Capital Group has a distinctive approach, broad product range and proven track record in fixed income investment, and…as we continue to build the firm’s fixed income business and expand our client reach globally, [Cheng] will play a critical role in representing fixed income opportunities to clients across Asia,” said Alexandra Haggard, head of product and solutions, Asia and Europe.

Capital Group has AUM of $2.7trn, and has managed fixed income portfolios since 1973 based on fundamental research in collaboration between fixed income and equity analysts, according to the firm.
