BNP Paribas Asset Management has appointed Daniel Choong as the firm’s Malaysia chief executive officer, subject to regulatory approval.

He succeeds Angelia Chin-Sharpe, who relocated to Singapore last August following her appointment as the firm’s Singapore CEO. Based in Kuala Lumpur, he will report to Chin-Sharpe.

Choong has held senior roles in Singapore and Malaysia, including ABN AMRO Asset Management (Singapore) and Nomura Islamic Asset Management (Malaysia). He was most recently managing director and head of distribution for abrdn Malaysia, where he oversaw the overall management of the firm’s local set up and the business development team across the institutional and wholesale client segments for Malaysia and parts of southeast Asia.

“Daniel’s experience in leading and working across asset management firms in Malaysia and southeast Asia enables him to have an acute understanding of business development across markets in this region. He will be an invaluable addition to the management team as we further cement our position as the sustainable investor for a changing world,” said Chin-Sharpe.
