Abrdn adds to Asia Pacific client group

The UK-asset manager has completed its Apac client group restructuring.

Abrdn has appointed Vivian Tang as head of institutional clients, Asia Pacific. Based in Hong Kong, she will take up her role on 22 March 2022 and will report to Rene Buehlmann, CEO, Asia Pacific, according to statement by the firm.

With two decades of experience in the asset management industry, Tang will be leading a team responsible for developing and delivering investment ideas for institutional clients across Asia Pacific.

Tang joins from First Sentier Investors (FSI) where she was head of distribution, North Asia, and was responsible for leading the strategic planning and business development in the region and managing the institutional and wholesale client business, including setting up partnerships with official institutions, pension funds, and financial institutions.

Prior to joining FSI, Tang held senior roles responsible for the distribution and coverage of clients in Greater China and as an Asian equities investment specialist.

Her appointment completes the repositioning of abrdn’s Asia Pacific client group which will now be led by Tang, David Hanzl (head of wholesale clients), and David Mitchell (head of the client management Office, according to the firm. All three will report to Rene Buehlmann.

The appointment of Tang and the recent structure change of the client group will enable abrdn Asia Pacific to engage with clients in a more focused manner and provide better solutions for their needs, according to Rene Buehlmann, CEO, Asia Pacific at abrdn.
