BlackRock adds senior portfolio manager

BlackRock has appointed Christopher Hall as managing director of the Asia fundamental equities team.

Hall joins the firm as a senior portfolio manager with research responsibilities across Asia-Pacific. Subject to regulatory approvals, he will assume management of portfolios later in the year.

He reports to Andrew Swan, head of Asian equities.

Hall has 25 years of experience and previously worked with Argo Investments, where he was senior investment officer, responsible for co-management of the firm’s A$5bn ($3.9bn) listed investment fund.

Hall joins at a time when the firm executes its plan to build a collaborative investment team and product range in Asia, according to Swan.

Swan noted that the firm’s Asian equity product range has roughly doubled in terms of assets under management since September 2011. He said instiutional clients are showing interest in the products.

BlackRock had $4.6trn in assets under management on 31 December.

In September, Old Mutual Global Investors poached Joshua Crabb from BlackRock as the head of Asian equities.
