Fidelity appoints new managing director for Asia Pacific ex Japan

Damien Mooney returns to Fidelity International after 13 years at BlackRock.

Fidelity International has announced the appointment of Damien Mooney as managing director, Asia Pacific ex Japan, with effect from 28 October 2024. In a return to Fidelity, Mooney will be responsible for the growth of the Asia Pacific (Apac) ex Japan regional business.

He will report to Derek Young, global head of asset management distribution.

Mooney (pictured) spent 13 years at BlackRock where he was most recently head of client partnerships and chief marketing officer for Apac. He also worked as the Asia Pacific head of BlackRock’s retail and wealth business, as well as regional head of Aladdin Wealth Tech.

Prior to his time at BlackRock, Mooney spent nine years at Fidelity International in a number of senior roles, including regional head of marketing, Asia Pacific.

“[Mooney’s] deep regional experience, strong client focus and proven leadership will be extremely valuable as we further expand our breadth of capabilities in the region and deepen client relationships,” said Young.

Mooney’s re-hiring follows the six-year tenure of Rajeev Mittal, who decided to leave Fidelity this month.

Young commented: “[Mittal] has made a significant impact in his time with us and our Asia Pacific ex Japan business has grown considerably through his tenure, including the launch of our onshore asset management company in mainland China.”
