Juillard rejoined the firm as the Hong Kong-based managing director of the new investment team, which is expected to be launched in the second half of this year, pending regulatory approval.
A spokeswoman said the firm is confident that there will be considerable client interest from across the globe.
“Clients are in search of yield with liquidity and we believe that in time there will be strong interest in this strategy from investors across the spectrum of clients from institutional investors, through to distributors and retail clients,” she said.
The new team will comprise 10 people at the initial stage, both internally and externally, and it will take time to grow.
In a statement, Juillard said: “Clients are looking for sources of return without wanting to compromise on liquidity. I am therefore incredibly excited to be re-joining AXA IM in order to build a platform for liquid absolute return strategies – exploiting a wide range of sources of return in order to meet this strong client need.”
Juillard joined frim Goldman Sachs in Hong Kong where he was a partner and head of structuring in the securities division in Asia-Pacific. Prior to that, he was head of structured finance at Axa, having joined the company in 1999 as head of financial engineering and asset and liability management studies.
