Yonezawa is banned from re-entering the industry for 30 months.
As a trader who was on secondment from Nomura Securities in Japan, he made false entries in Nomura Hong Kong’s risk management system to conceal the real risk exposure of his trades during the period of March to May 2013, the SFC said in a statement.
He also made misrepresentations to his supervisors and the management of Nomura Hong Kong when he explained the losses resulting from his trades, the SFC said. The regulator referred to his conduct as “deliberate and dishonest”.
Yonezawa was licensed to carry out dealings in securities and in futures contracts and was accredited with Nomura Hong Kong between 31 December 2012 and 6 June 2013. He is currently not licensed by the SFC.
Nomura Hong Kong was fined HK$4.5m ($580,600) in July for not reporting Yonezawa’s misconduct to the SFC in a timely manner.
