Schroders shakes up client group leadership

The changes include the promotion of Gopi Mirchandani to head of client group, Asia.

Schroders has announced four new senior appointments in a shake-up of its client relationship group.

Karine Szenberg will be appointed executive vice chair, and Matt Oomen joins Schroders as global head of client group.

In Asia, Gopi Mirchandani has been appointed head of client group, Asia and Jason Yu has been made country head for Hong Kong, subject to regulatory approval.

Szenberg, currently global head of client group, will remain on the group executive committee in her new role as executive vice chair. She will focus on the acceleration of the UK-based asset manager’s strategy by working closely with Schroders’ network of joint ventures and associates and build new partnerships with leading organisations, according to a press release.

Oomen (pictured) joins Schroders as global head of client group, reporting to Richard Oldfield. He has a 30-year career in the financial services industry.  He joins from US-headquartered BNY Investments where he was most recently global head of distribution, responsible for product strategy, marketing and sales across 30 countries.

In his role Oomen will be responsible for driving growth across the business and building on client relationships.

Prior to the BNY and Mellon merger, Oomen worked at Mellon Global Investment, with a combined tenure across both firms of 23 years, and before that at insurance company, Zurich Financial Services.  Oomen will join the group executive committee at Schroders.

Richard Oldfield, group CEO, Schroders, said: “[Szenberg] has led the transformation of our client group by re-focusing the team and doubling down on driving sales excellence, putting in place all the foundations needed for its future success.”

“[Oomen’s global perspective and decades of client-focused experience will help us build on our privileged position as a trusted partner to clients,” he added.

Meanwhile, in Asia, Gopi Mirchandani has been promoted to head of client group, Asia, succeeding Chris Durack, who has been appointed to the newly created role of chair for Asia until his departure on 31 December.

Mirchandani will report to Oomen. In addition, Jason Yu has been appointed country head for Hong Kong, subject to regulatory approval. These new appointments will be focused on enhancing Schroder’s “client-first proposition and driving deeper client relationships”.

“In our Global Investor Insights Survey, there is clear evidence of investors looking to increase their use of actively managed investment strategies to strengthen portfolio resilience and capture specific investment opportunities amid mounting economic uncertainty and market volatility,” said Oldfield.
