Neuberger Berman adds to China equity team

Neuberger Berman has hired a five-strong team to bolster its China equity offering.

Bin Yu has been appointed as a portfolio manager, along with four research analysts from Cloudridge Capital, an investment management firm founded by Yu in 2014.

Located in Hong Kong and Beijing, the team has local expertise in the China equity markets, both local listed A-shares and Hong Kong listed H-shares.

It manages a long-term, high conviction, value-oriented investment approach, which will be run as a private fund available to Neuberger Berman clients.

Before forming Cloudridge, Yu spent more than five years with the China Investment Corporation, where headed the $10bn global equity team and was a senior portfolio manager across three multi-billion portfolios: equity long short, long-only global equity and equity special situations.

He previously spent four years at Eagle Capital Management in New York where he helped manage a $7bn long-only US equity portfolio for institutional investors.

Joseph Amato, president and chief investment officer, equities, at Neuberger Berman, said: “We are excited about extending our investment capabilities in China – a large and increasingly important equity market.

“Bin’s long-term, high conviction, value oriented investment approach is grounded in fundamental research and we expect him to be a great fit in the Neuberger Berman culture.”

Yu said: “I’m excited to join Neuberger Berman as Chinese equities become increasingly integrated in global investors’ portfolios.

“My team and I have worked to build our institutional investment process and record, and as we approach our three-year anniversary we look forward to joining a firm with the depth and resources of Neuberger Berman.”
