Salmah Bee will be in charge of supervising market intermediaries, such as authorisation and licensing.
Separately, Kamarudin Hashim, who formerly led the intermediary and fund supervision team, has been appointed as executive director of the market and corporate supervision business group, overseeing the institution supervision, corporate surveillance, market surveillance and risk analysis departments.
It is not clear, however, if Salmah’s role is newly-created or if she has replaced Kamarudin.
According to the firm’s website, Wong Yoke Weng is the regulator’s senior general manager and head of intermediary supervision.
FSA sought more information from the SC, but did not receive a reply in time for publication.
Salmah has 20 years of experience in finance and the capital markets industry. At the SC, she has taken different roles giving her knowledge of regulatory matters including compliance, enforcement, licensing and supervision, the statement said.
Kamarudin has been with the regulator since 1993, with experience in various areas including derivatives, bonds, fund management, Islamic capital markets and supervision.
