The firm is targeting expat clients in Hong Kong and aims to sign new Chinese HNWI clients. Kirchmann told FSA that she believes Investec’s investment banking and asset management businesses, already set up in Hong Kong, will help with client introductions.
“This is the first step of internationalisation and our focus will be to grow our business in Hong Kong.”
The wealth managment team has two investment managers including Kirchmann. Both relocated from the London office. She said the investment managers would be facing the clients as well as managing their portfolios.
The firm is focusing on organic growth and is not considering any acquisitions at this time, she said.
“The focus would be on the service and people rather than the product.”
The firm has prepared for the expansion in Hong Kong since 2014, after finishing the integration of its wealth business in the UK, she said. Its wealth management unit has offcies in the UK, South Africa and Switzerland.
