HEAD-TO-HEAD: Jupiter vs Franklin Templeton

The Jupiter fund is managed by Ariel Bezalel, the firm’s head of strategy for fixed income. The team is comprised of seven analysts who contribute to Bezalel’s investment decisions.

The portfolio strategy is developed through internal debate and discussions, according to Ng. The team also uses third-party research to assist decision-making.

“The past performance has demonstrated active management of the fund, such as adjusting across different asset classes. The strategy has consistently added value to the investment returns,” he said.

The Templeton fund is managed by lead manager Michael Hasenstab and co-manager Sonal Desai, backed by a team based in the US.

Hasenstab is also chief investment officer of the firm’s global macro team while Desai serves as director of research.

“The stable and experienced Templeton team mainly looks at macroeconomic situations. The team also has access to the firm’s broader fixed income research from local specialists in different markets,” Ng said.
