Manager review
Greg Kuhnert has been the portfolio manager for the Investec Asian Equity Fund since 2004, and he is also co-portfolio manager for the Asia-Pacific ex-Japan equity strategy in the 4-Factor team at Investec Asset Management.
He joined Investec in 1999, working as an analyst researching Asian and global equities, and over time has built a strong record for his strategy and well-structured investment process in the Asia markets, according to Ng.
Kuhnert’s 20-years covering Asian equities has also made him very familiar with Investec’s 4-Factor model, and his ability to add value above the model’s output has contributed to him earning a Morningstar analyst rating of silver.
“Kuhnert is highly experienced and capable,” said Ng.
Turning to the JP Morgan Asia Growth Fund, the lead fund manager Joanna Kwok, makes up for her relative inexperience with great potential to build on the success she has enjoyed since taking over main responsibility for the fund in 2015.
“She has made a name for herself already,” said Ng.
Kwok joined JP Morgan is 2002 as a fixed income analyst, before switching over to equities in 2005. She managed Asian small-cap portfolios for a decade, until joining veteran portfolio manager Mark Davids at the Asia Growth Fund.
Davids, who serves as co-head of the Asia-Pacific regional team within the wider emerging markets group, now provides support for Kwok, who is further backed up by sector and country specialists.
“Kwok is an impressive manager who has generated strong, consistent returns for her investors,” said Ng.
