The Gam fund has significantly outperformed in its [FO equity tech media & telecom] sector over one-, three-, five- and 10-years, noted McDermott. Although in the more narrowly defined “equity -technology” category of funds available in Singapore, it has slightly lagged the average return of its peers over three years, according to FE Fundinfo data.
The product has generated a 105% three-year cumulative return (in US dollars), compared with 110% by the equity – technology category FE Fundinfo shows.
The fund’s best calendar year came in 2020 when it returned 61%, and it posted positive returns in each of the past five years, noted McDermott.
The Guinness fund is in the equity international sector, which it has significantly outperformed over one-, three-, five- and 10-years.
It has achieved a 75% three-year cumulative return, compared with 43% for its sector average, according to FE Fundinfo.
“Over the managers’ tenure (just shy of seven years) it has returned 153.3% versus 80.6% by its peers,” said McDermott.
The fund’s best years under the current managers were 2020 and 2019 when it returned 35% in both years versus its peer average of and 16% in 2020 and 24% in 2019. It underperformed in 2018, when the fund fell 18% compared with a sector decline of 11%, according to FE Fundinfo.
