Martin Lau has led the FSSA Hong Kong Growth Fund since April 2002, and has 25 years of investment experience.
“He is widely regarded in Hong Kong and in the rest of Asia as a superstar stock picker who has consistently delivered strong returns across his mandates,” said Poole. “He is also well supported by a strong team of analysts.”
Lau leads a 20-strong that has an average of 11 years of investment experience. However, there have been some departures. China A-shares manager Quanqiang Xian left in 2020 after three other exits in the previous year.
Turning to Schroders, the head of Asian equity investments Toby Hudson has led the Hong Kong equity strategy since January 2008. He has spent 29 years at Schroders and is highly respected.
“He has clear focus and investment philosophy, and is a high quality stock picker, ” said Poole.
Hudson is backed by an Asia ex Japan analyst team of 31 people, and 12 of them are focused on China research. That team suffered a couple of departures this year, but Schroders added three new analysts in Shanghai, two in Hong Kong, and one in Taiwan.
