HEAD-TO-HEAD: China Universal Value Selected versus E Fund Kexiang

E Fund Kexiang is led by portfolio manager Hao Chen, who brings 14 years of investment experience and took the helm of this fund in May 2014.

Chen draws research support from a dedicated team of four analysts with seven years of investment experience on average. Meanwhile, he can also leverage research support from E Fund’s research platform with more than 40 sector analysts, according to Morningstar.

China Universal Value Selected is led by portfolio manager Jienan Lao. Lao sports 11 years of investment experience and began to manage this fund in November 2015. He is supported by a team of 35 sector analysts which have three years of investment experience on average, Qu said.

“Workload is a potential concern for both managers,” Qu said, explaining that Chen currently runs 12 mandates with similar investment strategy but slightly different investment universes, which collectively have  AUM of RMB 38.68bn ($6.1bn) of 31 December 2021.

Lao manages 7 distinctive mandates with a total AUM of RMB36.93bn. In addition, as China Universal’s head of equity research, Lao is also responsible for managing the equity research team.
