Blackrock has an ongoing charges figure (OCF) of 1.78% , while its Fidelity peer charges 1.66%, according to Morningstar data.
It’s critical to evaluate expenses, as they come directly out of returns.
The Blackrock share class levies an OCF that ranks in its Morningstar category’s second-costliest quintile, whereas the Fidelity fund lies in the middle quintile.
“Neither fund is particularly cheap,” said Mottola.
“Considering that the expected returns for income strategies are not as high as for some riskier ones, these fees are making it fairly difficult for the managers to beat their benchmarks.”
The relatively expensive fees explain the Morningstar Analyst Rating of Neutral for both funds.
