Dividend manager Madsen quits Matthews Asia

Jesper Madsen is leaving Matthews Asia in October, leaving the dividend fund he manages in the hands of Robert Horrocks and Yu Zhang.

Madsen, who is leaving the firm to pursue non-finance related opportunities, will remain co-manager of the fund alongside the two new appointees until his departure on 31 October.

He has been at the helm of the fund since 2010, and joined the firm in 2004.

Horrocks is CIO at the firm, and is lead portfolio manager of its Asian Growth and Income Fund. Portfolio manager Zhang, meanwhile, heads up the China Dividend strategy.

The Matthews Asia Dividend Fund is most heavily exposed to the Pacific Basin region, 63.5%, and in terms of sector consumer products accounts for the largest proportion of capital, 34.6%. Its top holdings include Japan Tobacco, China Mobile and HSBC.

It is a top quartile performer over three years, returning 32.56% versus the benchmark’s 20.97%. The fund’s performance over the past year is shown in the graph below.
