BNP Paribas AM names new Hong Kong CEO

Peggy Lee has also been appointed Asia Pacific chief marketing officer.

BNP Paribas Asset Management (BNPP AM) today announced the appointment of Peggy Lee as the firm’s Hong Kong chief executive officer (CEO) – subject to regulatory approval. She will also Asia Pacific chief marketing Officer (CMO) with effect from 8 November. 

Lee (pictured) succeeds Guillaume Wehry, who will be relocating to Europe to take on another role within the BNP Paribas group. 

Based in Hong Kong, Lee will report locally to Mike Nikou, BNP Paribas Asset Management Asia Pacific CEO, and functionally to London-based Paul Van Eynde, BNP Paribas Asset Management’s Global CMO.

“[Lee] brings a wealth of experience of the investment, asset and wealth management industry and an excellent understanding of the regional and Hong Kong markets,” said Nikou in a statement.

“This senior appointment is in line with our ambition to reinforce and accelerate our asset management business across the wholesale distribution space in the region,” he added.

Lee joins from Manulife Investment Management, where she was the global head of retail marketing and chief marketing officer Asia.  She has two decades of experience in the financial services industry across wealth and asset management and retail banking, including at HSBC, Standard Chartered and Allianz Global Investors, covering both local and global businesses.   

As Hong Kong’s CEO, Lee will be responsible for strengthening BNP Paribas AM’s business, and also oversee the retail distribution channels in the territory, according to the statement. For her role as CMO, she will work in partnership with the different heads in wholesale distribution, institutional sales as well as oversee brand and communications across Asia Pacific.
