BlackRock appoints Hua Fan head of China

Jim Zhang has also been named general manager of BlackRock CCB Wealth Management.

BlackRock has announced the appointments of Hua Fan as head of China, and Jim Zhang as general manager of BlackRock CCB Wealth Management, subject to regulatory approval.

Susan Chan, whose promotion to BlackRock’s head of Asia Pacific was announced last Friday, said: “We are immensely proud of the platform, leadership, and culture we have cultivated in China over the past three years. The appointments of Hua Fan and Jim Zhang are key to our continued growth as we aspire to become the premier global asset manager in China.”

Fan (main picture) joined in 2022 to lead BlackRock CCB Wealth, and has over 25 years’ experience in the investment industry. She was previously chief investment officer for China Merchant Bank’s wealth management subsidiary, and also worked at China Investment Corporation and Goldman Sachs.

Zhang (pictured left) has been a key member of BlackRock’s China leadership team for the past eight years, most recently leading the management operation supporting the firm’s onshore businesses and as the chief liaison to China Construction Bank.

Prior to this, Zhang was deputy general manager, chief technology officer, and chief operating officer of BlackRock Fund Management Company – the firm’s mutual fund business. He has worked in the financial industry since 1994.

BlackRock’s business in China includes a fund management business and a wealth management joint venture. The firm has also developed various investment capabilities across equities, fixed income and multi-asset strategies, and built a local China team.
