Global emerging markets equity funds attracted the highest level of capital in January with €4.4bn flowing into the sector. This brought 12-month inflows to €19.4bn.
Asia Pacific ex-Japan and China equities, meanwhile, both saw record inflows in January attracting €1.6bn and €1bn respectively, the highest monthly level since records began.
Emerging markets were also popular in the bonds market and the Global Emerging Markets Bond – Local Currency sector attracted the third largest level of capital in the first month of the year (€2.5bn). Global Emerging Markets Bonds were also in the top five with inflows of €2bn.
The news was not so good for UK-based funds, as the UK Large-Cap Blend Equity, UK Equity Income and GBP Corporate Bond sectors saw the highest outflows for the month, at -€1.4bn, -€697m and -€605m respectively. This could mark the start of a downward trend for these sectors as data suggests further economic woe in the UK.
