Abrdn names sole CEO for investments business

The move comes after Chris Demetriou decided to step aside as co-CEO of the investments business.

Abrdn has appointed incumbent Apac CEO Rene Buehlmann as the sole CEO of its investments business, FSA has learned.

Buehlmann joined abdrn in 2021 as the CEO of Apac and became the co-CEO of its investments business together with Chris Demetriou in June.

“Chris Demetriou has decided to step aside as co-CEO of the investment business, he will remain with the firm through a period of transition to ensure continuity,” said a spokesperson from the asset manager.

The firm did not disclose how long Demetriou will continue to stay with the firm.

The move is to simplify the asset manager’s investment business and drive efficiency, as abrdn focuses on accelerating growth across the business globally, the spokesperson added.

Based in Asia, Buehlmann will be supported by Peter Branner, the chief investment officer who joined in May, and Xavier Meyer, chief client officer, overseeing the UK & EMEA regions.

“I am excited to be leading our investments business as we look ahead to accelerate our strategy. The work of the last two years has been critical in repositioning our business and I am proud how far we have come,” said Buehlmann.

“Our focus now is on truly delivering for our clients and enabling them to be better investors.”
