T. Rowe Price (TRP) has announced its first online distribution partnership in Japan as the firm continues to build on its growing intermediary business in the market.
Under the partnership, T. Rowe Price US Structured Research Equity strategy will be available to retail investors in Japan through Rakuten Securities’ online distribution platform as a public ITM (investment trust fund) to be launched on June 13, according to a statement by the US asset manager.
It will provide Japanese investors with enhanced exposure to the S&P 500 Index with value added through active stock selection.
Naoyuki Honda (pictured), country head of TRP Japan, said, “We are pleased to bring our extensive research capabilities and active stock selection expertise to a broader base of Japanese investors through Rakuten Securities.”
The TRP US Structured Research Equity strategy is a core US equity strategy that uses the stock-selection abilities of the firm’s research platform. Since its inception over 25 years ago, the strategy has employed a bottom-up approach to security selection and applied risk oversight and portfolio construction principles to navigate different market environments.
The strategy’s actively managed portfolio typically holds 200-275 positions, with stock selection based purely on the fundamental insights of about 30 analysts from the firm’s US equity research team.
The portfolio’s sector, industry, and style exposures are designed to be similar to those of the S&P 500 Index, with stock selection expected to be the primary source of excess returns.
