StanChart names head of managed investments

Standard Chartered in Singapore has appointed Andrew Chia as global head of managed investments, effective July 1, Fund Selector Asia has learned.

StanChart has confirmed the appointment to FSA.

Chia transfers from Taipei, where he was head of retail banking for Taiwan for the UK firm.

In the new role, he reports to Judy Hsu, group head of wealth management based in Singapore.

As Chia takes on the role of global head of managed investments, Alexis Calla, global head of investment advisory and strategy across the entire wealth business, will now focus exclusively on his role as global head of investment advisory and strategy, according to a bank spokeswoman.

Calla had also overseen managed investments as part of his remit since July 2013.

With Chia’s appointment, the bank has split reponsibilites of these two key areas between the two senior executives.

Before taking on the Taiwan role, Chia was head of wealth management and priority and international banking for Singapore and Southeast Asia.

The appointment follows another senior addition to Calla’s team in March, when Christian Mueller joined as global head of investment advisory for private banking as part of a drive to build out the wealth management arm.

Calla said at the time that he is looking at expanding the division, especially with specialist roles in alternatives, fund selection and advisory.

StanChart in July last year was quoted as saying it planned to more than double its wealth business assets of $137 billion to $300 billion by 2020. Of that, $58 billion was accounted for by the group’s private bank and the rest by priority clients.
