SFC clears Zeal, Axa for fund launches

Zeal Asset Management has been authorised to launch a fixed income fund in Hong Kong, according to records from the Securities and Futures Commission (SFC).

Axa, Wells Fargo and Phillip Securities also received regulatory approval to launch products in the SAR.

The Zeal Hong Kong Dollar Bond Fund is the latest fund that received authorisation, SFC records show. It received approval from the regulator on 23 May.

The date of the fund launch is unknown and it is unclear whether it will be sold through the Mutual Recognition of Funds (MRF) scheme.

FSA sought for more information from Zeal, but the firm declined to comment.

The product will be the firm’s first pure fixed income fund offering. Zeal is currently offering the Zeal Voyage China Fund and the Zeal China Connect Fund.

The Zeal Voyage China Fund, which has around HK$2.17bn ($278.4m) in assets, is an equity fund that invests in stocks listed in Hong Kong, Shanghai and Shenzhen, according to its fund factsheet. It is also one of the seven Hong Kong-domiciled MRF- approved funds.

It was launched in 2010 and started selling under the MRF scheme in January 2016.

The Zeal China Connect Fund, which has around HK$86.14m, is a mixed-asset fund that invests in equities and debt securities with a China focus, according to its fund factsheet. The fund was launched in December 2015.

Recent approvals

Besides Zeal’s dollar bond fund, the SFC last month gave a go signal for eight funds to be sold in Hong Kong.

Those funds are managed by Axa Funds Management, Wells Fargo Asset Management and Phillip Capital Management, the records show.
