OMGI fund gets new manager

Old Mutual Global Investors has appointed Diamond Lee to manage the $100m Old Mutual Greater China Equity Fund.
His appointment is effective 20 January 2015.

The Old Mutual Greater China Equity Fund is currently sub-advised by Metisq Capital. It has been managed by Kenny Tjan, head of Metiq Capital and Xiong Xiong, the CIO of Libra, according to the fund’s factsheet.

Lee previously worked at Ignis Asset Management for 18 years as an Asian equities portfolio manager, responsible for stock selection in China across Asia Pacific and emerging markets portfolios. He managed the Ignis Pacific Growth Fund and Ignis China Fund.

In November, Lee joined OMGI’s Asian equities team, which is managed by Joshua Crabb.

“Under [Lee] we will aim to grow the fund’s assets under management in order to deliver investors the associated efficiencies and liquidity of scale,” said Crabb.

The Asia equities team is part of OMGI in London, but is expected to join OMGI in Hong Kong in March 2015, subject to the required regulatory approvals being received, the firm said.

The team will support the expansion of OMGI’s Asia business under the direction of Carol Wong, who joined the company in November 2013 as managing director, head of distribution, Asia.
