Peta joined from Threadneedle Asset Management, having held a head of EM debt and fund manager berth since 2012. Prior to that he spent time in EM debt-related roles with Standish Mellon Asset Management and Acadian Asset Management.
Following Peta’s appointment, OMGI said it will bring management of its $150m OM Local Currency Emerging Market Debt Fund in-house.
Peta assumed the role on 2 March, reporting to head of fixed income Christine Johnson, and will take over management of the fund from Stone Harbor Investment Partners on 20 April.
OMGI said there may also be a managment change for the OM Emerging Market Debt Fund following a review of the current sub-adviser, also Stone Harbor.
Johnson said: “We are actively expanding our range of capabilities, including bringing many of the outsourced funds in house. The percentage of assets held in sub-advised funds has dropped significantly since OMGI’s inception in 2012.
“We have identified emerging market debt as an area that we believe can add real value to a client’s portfolio and we feel that John’s experience means he is the ideal person to manage the fund going forward.”
OMGI has had several recent hires. In Asia, Simon MacKinnon was brought on this month as Asia strategy adviser to support the regional expansion of OMGI’s asset and wealth management units.
The firm also made hires for its Asian equities team in recent months, including Joshua Crabb, who was brought over from BlackRock to head the Asian equities team.
The team includes China equities portfolio manager Diamond Lee, who joined in November 2014.
