Reed, who assumed his role on 17 January, is responsible for the development and implementation of the firm’s growth strategy, according to a statement from the firm.
He reports jointly to Gianni Fiacco, Manulife AM’s chief operating officer for Asia wealth and asset management, and to Michael Parker, Manulife Insurance Thailand’s president and general manager.
With 20 years of industry experience, Reed was previously FIL Asset Management (Korea)’s country head, according to the statement. Before that, he held senior management roles in financial services firms globally, including Australia, China, Hong Kong, Korea and Taiwan.
The firm managed around $343bn in assets globally as of end-September, according to the statement. In Asia, it has offices with investment capabilities in Japan, Hong Kong, Singapore, Taiwan, Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam, Malaysia and the Philippines. It also has a joint venture asset management business in China, Manulife TEDA.
