As part of its focus on specialist emerging markets (EM) solutions, HSBC Asset Management (HSBC AM) has hired Caroline Keany in London.

She joined the EM debt team earlier this month as a senior portfolio manager. She will co-manage the firm’s EM corporate and green bond assets together with Julio Obeso.

“Caroline has an exceptional background in managing EM corporate debt investments, both investment grade and high yield – particularly in alpha-generating hedge fund strategies. Her knowledge and experience will be essential in enabling our clients to explore the many opportunities that investing in EMD brings,” said Bryan Carter, head of global EM debt.

Before joining HSBC, Keany was responsible for directing a team of analysts and leading EM corporate debt investments for EMSO Asset Management’s total return hedge funds. She has also worked at Dillon Read Capital Management and Moore Capital.

The expansion is part of HSBC AM’s plan to strengthen its offering. It also set up a new real estate team earlier this month, and consolidated its alternatives business under a single unit back in June.

In 2020, HSBC AM set out its strategy to re-position the business as a core solutions and specialist EM, Asia and alternatives focused asset manager, with client centricity, investment excellence and sustainable investing as key enablers, according to a statement.

As at 31 March 2021, HSBC AM managed assets totalling $621bn on behalf of its clients.
