HSBC AM appoints new global equity CIO

HSBC Asset Management has promoted its former thematic equity CIO.

HSBC Asset Management (HSBC AM) has appointed Pierin Menzli as global CIO, equity, to lead its active equity platform. Based in Switzerland, Menzli will report into Xavier Baraton, global chief investment officer.

In his new role, Menzli (pictured) will be responsible for managing HSBC AM’s active equity platform, with oversight of a team of over 100 professionals who collectively manage close to $30bn of assets (31 August 2024) across a variety of strategies, according to a statement by the asset manager.

Additionally, he will play a key role in accelerating business growth for the platform, specifically focused on emerging markets, Asia, thematic and other specialised strategies.

Baraton said: “We are pleased to announce [Menzli] as our new global CIO for equities as part of our ongoing effort to further scale up our equity platform in our key areas of specialism.”

Prior to joining HSBC AM in 2022 as thematic equity CIO, Menzli was head of thematic equities at Bank J. Safra Sarasin, responsible for developing the firm’s thematic equity franchise with several global equity strategies in the fields of technology, health, consumer and environment.
