Liu is based in Shanghai and succeeds Tian Ren Can, who left the firm in late February, a company spokesman said.

HFT Investment Management is a joint venture between BNP Paribas Investment Partners and Haitong Securities. According to the firm, in April 2003, it became one of the first joint venture fund management companies to receive approval from the China Securities Regulatory Commission.

Liu has 16 years of experience in the financial services industry, the firm said. 

At Deutsche Asset and Wealth Management, he was head of Greater China global client group and established relationships with institutional clients and distribution partners in the region. 

Prior to DeAWM, Liu also held a number of senior positions with other global asset management companies in Hong Kong and China.

Since August 2003, HFT Investment said it has launched 20 products. The firm had RMB28bn ($4.5bn) in assets under management on 31 March.
